Noonmark Mountain

Region: Adirondacks (Non-46er)

Level: Moderate/Difficult

Distance/Elevation: 5.5-6 Miles roundtrip for loop; 4.8-5 if you go up and back (no loop)/2,306 feet

From the intersection of Route 86 and Route 73 in Lake Placid, follow Route 73 toward Keene. Continue through Keene and Keene Valley and proceed to Saint Huberts. Locate the trailhead for Giant Mountain and Roaring Brook Falls on the left. The parking for Noonmark is directly across the road.

Noonmark can be attacked a few ways but primarily you’re either starting at St. Hubert’s or you can take the Round Pond route. We did St. Hubert’s. Noonmark is relatively moderate though it does get steep and challenging (towards summit). From the parking lot walk up the dirt road for around 0.25 miles to the register at the trailhead for Noonmark Mountain. You’ll hike along the old Dix trail for a bit before hitting the Henry Stimson Trail, which will bring you to the top after about 2.5 miles.

Near the summit, one of many fantastic lookouts of the High Peaks.

On your way down, you can either go back the way you came up or do the full loop. Over the summit you’ll find the trailhead towards Felix Adler trail down. This will eventually meet up with the Old Dix Trail. Take that trail all the way down which should bring you back to the original intersection of Old Dix/Henry Stimson. Keep heading down and you’ll eventually hit the trailhead and roadway back down to the St. Hubert’s parking lot.

Great, challenging but short hike with some amazing views!
